Our Approach to Therapy

At Amavita Counseling, we take a whole-person approach to emotional wellbeing. Therapy is always trauma-informed and tailored to each person’s unique story, needs, and goals.

Rather than focusing only on diagnoses or labels, we focus on helping you:

  • Develop deeper self-understanding
  • Build emotional awareness and resilience
  • Navigate stress, anxiety, and life transitions
  • Strengthen relationships and communication
  • Feel more grounded and connected in daily life

Therapy may draw from a range of therapeutic approaches and theories depending on your clinician’s training and orientation. What remains constant is our commitment to thoughtful, respectful care that meets you where you are.

Who We Work With

We offer therapy for adults (18+) through in-person sessions in Pittsburgh and virtual counseling across Pennsylvania and Texas.

Anxiety and chronic stress

Depression or emotional heaviness

Grief and loss

Major life transitions

Relationship challenges

Faith or spiritual transitions

Persistent self-doubt or inner pressure

Many clients are professionals, entrepreneurs, athletes, creatives, and caregivers, people who are used to managing a lot of responsibility but want a space to reflect, recalibrate, and reconnect with themselves.

In-Person or Virtual Therapy: Your Choice

Amavita Counseling offers both in-person and virtual therapy options.

In-person sessions

take place in a private office space in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, offering a calm environment where clients can step away from the pressures of daily life.

Virtual therapy

is available to clients across Pennsylvania and Texas through a secure video platform, providing flexibility and accessibility for those with busy schedules.

Both formats are effective; the best option is the one that helps you show up consistently and feel supported.

Begin with a Conversation

Starting therapy can feel like a big step. That’s why we begin with a free 20-minute consultation.

This conversation gives you the opportunity to ask questions, share what’s bringing you to therapy, and see if working together feels like the right fit.

You don’t have to have everything figured out before reaching out.

Colette’s style is compassionate and collaborative in working with clients to navigate challenges, embrace growth, and move toward meaningful transformation. She welcomes feedback throughout the sessions and works to fine tune all of the strategies to fit uniquely with the client’s personality, history and preference.

Her approach is rooted in the belief that true change arises when clients feel both supported and challenged. Colette knows how to balance kindness with a direct approach, empowering clients to step onto a path of healing and self-discovery.

Colette’s clients are individuals seeking to break free from patterns that no longer serve them. “Many come to me feeling stuck in cycles of anxiety, depression, or self-doubt, or struggling with life transitions and relational conflicts. Together, we explore what’s beneath the surface, guided by self-compassion and a commitment to change. My goal is to help clients gain clarity, develop resilience, and reconnect with their sense of purpose and authenticity.”

You might work well with Colette if you want to:

  • Challenge old patterns and embrace new ways of being.

  • Build resilience and reconnect with your inner strength.

  • Make friends with your feelings and develop your emotional intelligence.

  • Cultivate self-compassion, instead of beating yourself up.

  • Develop healthier relationships and boundaries.

  • Explore the role of spirituality and mindfulness in your life.

  • Move through transitions with confidence and clarity.

More Than Just My Work

Originally from South Africa, I have an understanding of cross-cultural life and still sport one of the most difficult English accents to mimic.

I am a proud parent of four glorious humans (21, 19, 16 and 14) – my family keeps me grounded, inspired and on my toes! I enjoy staying active, a gathering of good friends, and the finer delights of a perfectly crafted chocolate.

In my own life, I believe that curiosity is a super power, that self-compassion is a game-changer, and a favorite phrase you’ll hear from me is, “Welcome to being human!”

Many of my clients come to therapy feeling crushed under the weight of cultural expectations, painful life transitions, or an emotional ache they can’t quite name. They may feel cut off from themselves — going through the motions, wondering why nothing feels like enough, or quietly carrying grief, anxiety, or trauma they’ve never felt safe enough to fully face. Some know something is wrong but can’t find the words. Others have spent so long pushing through that they’ve lost touch with who they even are underneath it all.

I take an integrative and creative approach, blending evidence-based therapies with expressive tools such as writing and art. Together, we explore both the emotional and physical layers of your experience, gently working through even the more complex or hard-to-face parts of your story. When it matters to you, we can also make space for questions of meaning, purpose, and spirituality.

Clients often describe our work together as transformative. My goal is to create a space where you feel genuinely safe, truly understood, and capable of more than you may believe right now — so you can rebuild a foundation that is solidly yours, reconnect with who you are, and move toward a life that feels more aligned, meaningful, and fully your own
